Elevator Pitch: Untitled Decay Sequences could be described as an exercise in technological mortality, exploring several methods of video decomposition which simultaneously concern both analogue and digital processes. The film centres on footage of a forest which is gradually subjected to artificial irregular cycles of visual decay. The film oscillates between distinct forms of degradation, beginning with the slowest and least abrasive: a digitally generated ‘melting’ effect. As the work progresses, more intrusive processes (such as analogue video feedback) are introduced. These cycles of distortion culminate in a final rupture, where the image appears to tear itself apart from the centre of the frame, releasing all remaining visual information until only a black screen remains.
